Medline Acquires Key Spine Surgery Technology from Amendia (press release)
To help meet the healthcare industry’s growing demand for comprehensive solutions for cervical spine procedures, Medline Industries, Inc. today announced it has acquired the anterior cervical fusion distraction pin business from Amendia, a recognized leading provider of innovative Class II and Class III medical devices used in spinal surgical procedures. The company is based in Marietta, Ga.

The United States has the highest rates of spine surgery in the world and industry data shows the spinal fusion surgical market is expected to grow more than eight percent a year. Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion, or ACDF, is a procedure to remove a herniated or degenerative disk in the neck area of the spine. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the most common reason for a herniated disk is related to the natural aging of the spine, but also can occur in people that use improper lifting techniques, are overweight, perform repetitive activities that strain the spine, frequent driving or have a sedentary lifestyle.
With the addition of the distraction pin, Medline now offers a comprehensive offering of surgical instruments for ACDF procedures, including a full line of retraction and distraction instruments, a wide array of sizes and styles of Kerrison Rongeurs and surgical procedure packs.
