ConforMIS Announces Settlement of Patent Infringement Lawsuits (press release)
Wright Medical and ConforMIS engaged in a patent dispute back in 2013. ConforMIS alleges that Wright Medical Group infringes U.S. Patent Nos. 7,534,263 titled “Surgical Tools Facilitating Increased Accuracy, Speed and Simplicity in Performing Joint Arthroplasty; 8,062,302 titled “Surgical Tools for Arthroplasty”; 8,066,708 titled “Patient Selectable Joint Arthroplasty Device and Surgical Tools”; and 8,460,304 titled “Joint Arthroplasty Devices and Surgical Tools.”
Since then Wright’s total joint business was spun off into MicroPort. Wright retained its foot and ankle and biologics business.
Since there are three companies involved now, a new license agreement has been signed by ConforMIS, Wright Medical Technology and MicroPort Orthopedics.
As a result of the new licensing agreement:
- ConforMIS can apply its iFit Image-to-Implant technology to foot and ankle implants.
- MicroPort can use its Prophecy Patient-Specific Instrumentation system for use with the Advance and Evolution total knee systems.
- Wright can use patient-specific instrumentation for foot and ankle implants other than patient-specific implants, including Prophecy PSI for use with the InBone and Infinity total ankle replacement systems.
- ConforMIS’ IP has become broader with patient-specific instrumentation.
