Summit Medical, a private equity-backed medical device firm, has acquired Germany’s Eska Implants for an undisclosed sum.

The deal should complement the product range of Summit Medical, which is backed by global private equity house The Riverside Company, and its subsidiary Orthodynamics.

Based in Lubeck, Eska produces and markets implant products including hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, spine, hand, foot and modular systems for reconstructive surgeries.

The Riverside Company acquired Summit Medical from Graphite Capital for £36 million in April 2008.

Radim Stach, a partner at Riverside, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to keep building a global player in the orthopaedic industry. Eska Implants is a niche leader in its segment – a gem with big potential for growth.”
