Company: OSSIO Inc.
Location: Palmetto, FL (On-site / Hybrid) – Convenient commute from Tampa, St. Petersburg, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and Sarasota.
Position Type: Full-Time W2 (Open to a phased 1099-to-W2 “try-and-hire” arrangement)
OSSIO is a fast-growing, trailblazing orthopedic and sports medicine company transforming the industry with breakthrough bio-integrative implants. With international operations and a brand-new, rapidly expanding US headquarters in Palmetto, Florida, we are scaling our team to match massive commercial momentum. As we launch next-generation products (including our upcoming ACL interference screw and innovative “knee bar” procedures), we are building out a world-class US operations and engineering hub.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an agile, commercially minded Instrument Engineer to own the design, optimization, and rapid delivery of our specialized single-use / disposable instrumentation.
Currently, our core R&D is based in Israel, and our instrumentation heavily relies on third-party design firms. This Florida-based role is the critical bridge. You will sit at the intersection of R&D, marketing, and the clinic—working directly with top-tier orthopedic surgeons during on-site bio-skills labs to iterate, source, and commercialize single-use instruments in weeks, not months.
Key Responsibilities
- Rapid Prototyping & Collaboration: Partner directly with visiting key opinion leader (KOL) surgeons during monthly on-site lab sessions. Capture real-time feedback, modify CAD designs, and rapidly prototype instrument adjustments on the fly.
- Disposable Instrument Design: Optimize and iterate on single-use delivery systems, drivers, inserters, and drill guides, ensuring tight R&D-to-marketing alignment and flawless execution for major product launches.
- Strategic Sourcing & Sourcing Agility: Drastically reduce lead times by shifting dependencies away from full-service design firms. Identify, evaluate, and integrate high-quality, off-the-shelf instrument components (e.g., specialized drill bits, handles) into our disposable kits.
- Cross-Functional Execution: Act as the technical anchor in Florida, working closely with local site operations, product management, and international R&D teams to streamline the tech transfer, packaging, and validation pipelines.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: 5 to 15+ years of mechanical or product development engineering experience specifically within the orthopedic, extremities, or sports medicine medical device space. (Compensation band will be closely tailored to depth of experience).
- Instrumentation Expertise: Proven track record in the design and manufacturing of surgical instrumentation. Direct experience with disposable / single-use instruments and plastics injection molding is highly preferred.
- Procurement & Supply Chain Savvy: You don’t just design in a vacuum; you know how to talk to vendors, source components, leverage existing supplier catalogs, and navigate vendor qualification.
- Technical Skill Set: Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred) and a strong understanding of rapid prototyping methods.
- Mindset: An entrepreneurial, high-velocity problem solver who thrives in a lean, fast-paced startup environment and is frustrated by corporate red tape.
What We Offer
- 100% Employer-Paid Healthcare Premiums: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with zero employee premium contribution.
- Equity Stake: Ground-floor stock options in a company positioned for significant growth, targeting major milestones, including future acquisition or IPO.
- High-Impact Visibility: Direct exposure to the executive leadership team (CEO/COO) and a visible hand in defining the operational footprint of our brand-new Palmetto facility.
