Smith and Nephew Orthopedics plans to move its corporate headquarters to the other side of Memphis

Smith & Nephew was granted a 15-year PILOT for its expansion plans at Goodlett Farms.  As part of the growth, it will add 160 new jobs with an average annual wage of $121,425 including benefits. A previous application indicated average pay of $101,000 including benefits.  The company will purchase a 285,000-square-foot building that was originally built to house Concord EFS Inc.’s corporate headquarters. Smith & Nephew’s total capital investment will reach $42 million and its 15-year PILOT is worth about $6.3 million.  With the new jobs, Smith & Nephew’s Memphis-based operations will employ more than 2,000. The company will continue to operate — and has room to grow — its manufacturing operations at facilities on Brooks Road.  London-based Smith & Nephew’s Orthopaedic Reconstruction and Trauma and Clinical Therapies units are based in Memphis.
