A former executive of a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to corruption over payments of 4.5 million pounds ($6.9 million) to Greek medical professionals.

Robert John Dougall, a 44-year-old former vice president for Market Development at DePuy International Ltd., was sentenced at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday.

Judge Joe Bean gave Dougall leave to appeal the decision because of the public interest issues raised by the case.

Dougall was charged over a number of corrupt payments to Greek health officials between February 2002 and December 2005 in return for the award of contracts for orthopedic products to DePuy.
