Zimmer Holdings restructuring affects Austin site (Austin Business Journal)
Zimmer spokesman Garry Clark would not specify how many employees were impacted in Austin by the changes, either through buy-out packages or layoffs.
Zimmer (Nasdaq: ZMH) has a strong presence in the Austin market through Zimmer, Zimmer Spine and Zimmer Orthobiologics, said Susan Davenport, senior vice president of global technology strategies with the chamber of commerce.
“This was part of a restructuring across all Zimmer locations, and they are not backing out of Austin. Zimmer has given us assurance that they will remain and will probably be re-hiring,” Davenport said.
Zimmer employed 175 people at its office at 5301 Riata Park Court in Northwest Austin, according to the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s 2010 report. It acquired Abbott Spine in 2008. Zimmer Orthobiologics Inc., which employs roughly 40 people, is housed at 9301 Amberglen Blvd.
