Orthofix International Announces Integration with Brainlab Spinal Image Guided Surgery System (press release)
Orthofix International N.V. announced today that it has reached an agreement with Brainlab for an integration of their Phoenix™ MIS and Firebird™ Pedicle Screw Systems into the latest generation of Brainlab spinal navigation systems.
“Our collaboration with Brainlab is another step in promoting new technologies for procedures such as minimally invasive and spinal deformity surgery. We are excited to partner with Brainlab to educate and promote the intra-operative advantages of its different image guided surgery platforms when used in conjunction with our Phoenix MIS and Firebird spinal fixation systems,” said Robert Vaters, President and Chief Executive Officer of Orthofix. The agreement allows for the integration and co-marketing of the technologies, which permits preoperative planning and real-time positioning of spinal fixation devices in technically challenging spinal fusions procedures.
“We believe that the combination of our navigation technology with minimally invasive surgical instrumentation can change the way spinal procedures are done today. It will not only increase the accuracy of the implant placement but also provide a better orientation during surgery and has the potential to reduce the intra-operative radiation exposure. We are very excited to add the Orthofix products to our supported portfolio for minimally invasive spinal navigation,” said Martin Immerz, Global Product Line Director Orthopedics of Brainlab.
The parties are introducing the partnership during the 2012 SpineWeek Meeting being held May 28 — June 1 inAmsterdam, The Netherlands.
