At least 95 Texas medical device employees will lose their jobs this year after Zimmer Spine closes its facility in Austin and Getinge Group shutters a plant in San Antonio.
At least 95 Texas medical device workers are slated to lose their jobs by the end of the year as medtech companies like Zimmer (NYSE:ZMH) look to streamline their operations in the region.
Zimmer’s spinal business announced that it would close an Austin facility by the end of July, leaving the fate of the approximately 100 employees there up in the air.
The company told reporters that some of the workers would be given the chance to relocate to Minneapolis, Minn., but didn’t say how many, the Statesman reported.

Zimmer told the news outlet that the closings and subsequent shuffling were in efforts to “streamline its business.”
