COORSTEK MEDICAL ACQUIRES ITALIAN ORTHO FIRM (Orthopedics This Week)

CoorsTek Medical, LLC, a company affiliated with CoorsTek, Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas, has acquired medical device manufacturer Nanosurfaces Industries Sri. (NSI) of Bologna, Italy. According to the press release, after a brief transition period, the Nanosurfaces Industries name will be retired and the Bologna operations will fully adopt the CoorsTek Medical brand.
NSI was the manufacturing division of SAMO spa, one of Europe’s longest-standing orthopedic original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). As part of the agreement, CoorsTek Medical will add the newly restructured SAMO and SAMO Italia to the roster of medical device OEMs for whom it manufactures.
CoorsTek Medical officials say that the acquisition establishes a strong European presence for the company with a 25,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Bologna. Additional synergies with CoorsTek Medical will include the expansion of that firm’s manufacturing competencies through Bologna’s surface modification technology capabilities.
