Stryker debuts the SonicAnchor that is designed to be liquefied by sonic energy and flow into cancellous bone

Stryker said today that it’s launching a new fixation anchor for extremity repair surgeries, SonicAnchor, that’s designed to be liquefied by sonic energy and flow into cancellous bone.

Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Stryker said the SonicAnchor device’s tip is made of a bioresorbable polylactide polymer that’s ready for stable fixation 5 seconds after application.

“SonicAnchor is transforming the soft tissue experience, and we are excited Stryker is leading the way in providing this innovative solution to orthopedic surgeons. Its SonicFusion technology is unlike any other on the market,” foot & ankle general manager Tom Popeck said in prepared remarks.

“Stryker is helping drive innovation in the industry with SonicAnchor and its unique fixation technology,” added Dr. Adam Schiff, of the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. “Every time I place one, I am truly impressed by the strength and performance of this small implant.”

Stryker said it’s planning to debut the device in Toronto at the annual meeting of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society July 20-23.
