24 ortho startups at LSI this week.

The LSI conference has emerged as a premier platform fostering collaboration between orthopedic startups and investors. Its success, in my view, stems from a “for-profit” model that prioritizes delivering the ultimate networking experience in the medtech space. While it comes with a premium price tag, it’s widely regarded as the top event of its kind.

Below are the 24 Ortho companies presenting at LSI this week (alphabetical) – https://www.lsiusasummit.com/

The company’s portfolio of cannulated screws and intramedullary nailing system address the challenges critical to advancing hand surgery.

https://hyalex.com/Hyalex Orthopaedics is a clinical-stage medtech startup focused on developing and commercializing new products utilizing the company’s proprietary synthetic cartilage technology – HYALEX. The material is unique in its ability to maintain low friction and low wear while supporting the high loads that human joints endure. The platform technology is initially being evaluated as part of a knee implant system to address unmet needs in the treatment of knee cartilage injuries.

https://ipd.health/ Implant Preservation Devices (IPD)has developed a handheld device to tackle a common, but devastating problem after joint replacement and fracture related surgeries, prosthetic joint infections (PJI) and Fracture related Infections (FRI). This device applies heat to implants using induction, effectively targeting, and eliminating bacteria that cause these infections. By reducing the risk of recurrent infections, it offers a quick, sterile, and convenient treatment option during surgery, potentially benefiting patients beyond just those undergoing joint replacements or fracture treatment.

https://www.kneevoice.com/. Kneevoice has designed a platform technology to capture the noise generated by the knee to evaluate cartilage damage and diagnose osteoarthritis. The platform consists of wearable knee sensors that records the sounds generated by the knee. This data is collected an analyzed by a neural network algorithm and generates a score evaluating the status of the cartilage.

https://moximed.com/. Moximed has developed an implantable shock absorber for patients with medial knee osteoarthritis. The MISHA device reduces the overall loading on the knee and serves as an alternative to pain medication, knee braces and joint-altering knee surgery. Placed during an outpatient procedure, the device provides 13kg (30 lbs.) of weight unloading to the knee.

https://my01.io/MY01 has developed a device to continuously monitor and manage acute compartment syndrome in muscles. The MY01 device is a sterile, single-use device that quickly measures muscle pressure following orthopedic surgery for trauma.

https://www.nanochon.com/Nanochon’s flagship product, Chondrograft™, is an off the shelf implant composed of 3D-printed nanomaterial polymer, designed to replace damaged cartilage while promoting natural tissue regeneration. This innovative solution offers a minimally invasive treatment for joint injuries, aiming to improve patient outcomes and reduce the need for total joint replacements long term.

https://novapproachspine.com/NovApproach Spine develops solutions for anterior lumbar spine surgery. The company’s OneLIF™ interbody cage is designed to enhance surgical versatility, enabling safer approaches for complex anatomical cases. By reducing the need for multiple backup implant systems, OneLIF™ aims to streamline procedures, lower costs, and improve efficiency. NovApproach Spine’s team includes experienced industry leaders and surgeons focused on advancing spinal surgery techniques.

https://www.orthopreserve.com/OrthoPreserve is developing an artificial meniscus implant aimed at addressing chronic knee pain and mobility issues resulting from meniscus injuries. Our proprietary technology is designed to closely replicate the structure and properties of the natural meniscus, with the goal of restoring knee function and preserving joint health. This minimally invasive device has the potential to become a new standard of care and displace more invasive procedures.

https://ossiform.com/Ossiform is the developer of fully resorbable patient-matched implants, tailored to improve bone healing outcomes in orthopedics and spine. According to Ossiform: We Print Bone™.

https://thinkpolarisar.com/ POLARISAR is pioneering a new era in surgery using mixed reality technology. The company is delivering what total joint robotic systems do in a mixed reality format. The company recently received FDA clearance for its first product, Stellar Knee, to measure, plan and guide a total knee arthroplasty procedure dynamically in real time.

https://www.reachortho.ca/. Reach Orthopaedics is developing a durable shoulder implant to treat middle-aged patients suffering from massive irreparable rotator cuff tears (MIRCT). Almost ten percent of the over-50 population has a MIRCT, but the middle-aged population is underserved by current treatment options. Designed by a team of orthopaedic surgeons and engineers with over 100-years of combined experience, Reach Orthopaedics’ novel implant restores shoulder alignment – increasing mobility and function, while reducing chronic pain.
