Vendor Credentialing is Broken. It’s Time to Fix this Orthopedic “Cash Grab.”

Recently, I saw Omar Khateeb over at The State of MedTech echoing many of the same frustrations we have discussed on BoneChat, specifically in a powerful session with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brian Blackwood. When surgeons and industry veterans start using words like "corruption," "extortion," and "cash grab," it’s time to stop complaining and start looking for a solution. Let's double click on this problem and look at a solution. The Current State: A System Rooted in Exploitation Credentialing began with a noble goal: patient safety. We all agree that reps in the OR should be vetted, vaccinated, and HIPAA-compliant. But as Dr. Blackwood pointed out, the system has devolved into a profit-driven middleman racket. We are seeing reps treated like second-class citizens—forced into "red hats" and flimsy, overpriced paper scrubs that have zero clinical evidence for reducing infection. More importantly, we’re seeing a massive financial drain.
