Every Monday I share a startup that I really like. I call it the Red-Hot Innovator of the Week.

As you know I like no friction business models that solve problems - especially no implants, no inventory, no cash tied up in assets, and easily scalable. Business Model > Product. It’s time to think about solving orthopedics shortcomings in a completely different way. Enter AlloDirect (allo.direct).

AlloDirect is not another tissue bank, and it is not another implant tracker. Founded in 2024 and now headquartered in Valparaiso, Indiana (with Chicago roots), the company is building what it calls the ordering layer for human tissue: one catalog, one workflow, lot and UDI captured when the order is placed, graft still shipping bank-to-facility.

The real bottleneck in biologics is not the donor. It is the phone tree between the bank and the table.

The Problem: The Graft Already Ships Direct. The Information Does Not. Allografts do not sit in a distributor warehouse the way a hip stem does. The tissue bank recovers, processes, and ships to the facility. The layers in between carry quotes, availability, preference cards, and paperwork — slowly.
