Rural Patients More Likely to Have Joint Replacement

Patients in rural areas are more likely than urban dwellers to undergo total knee and hip replacement surgeries, a new study found.

Among Medicare recipients, rural residents were 27% more likely to have one of the joints replaced (OR 1.27, 95% CI 1.26 to 1.28), according to an online report published Nov. 30 in Arthritis and Rheumatism.
