Redefine Surgery is not chasing another implant or a bigger robot. Founded in 2023 in Hoboken and Edison, New Jersey, the company is building what it calls the operating system for surgery’s next era: trackerless computer-vision navigation now, and an AI mentor trained on master surgeons next.
The real bottleneck in orthopedics is not metal. It is expertise that still does not scale.
The Problem: Expertise Doesn’t Scale
The best arthroplasty and sports-medicine surgeons carry decades of timing, sequencing, and tactile judgment. That knowledge still travels one-to-one. A fellowship mentor can only stand at so many tables. Everyone else learns from a few cases, a cadaver lab, and hope.
Two downstream problems follow:
Inconsistent execution: Alignment, implant seating, and soft-tissue decisions vary by who is holding the instruments, not just by which implant is on the board.
