US doctors face sanctions for spine study payments (Reuters)
The Attorney General’s Office of New Jersey announced on May 3 that the state’s Board of Medical Examiners, “publicly disciplined” Richard Balderston, M.D., Thomas Errico, M.D., and Jeffrey Goldstein, M.D., for “committing professional misconduct by not disclosing…their financial interests in the ProDisc spinal disc device.”
The Board assessed civil penalties plus cost reimbursements against Errico and Goldstein. Errico received a $60,000 civil penalty and $17,500 in cost reimbursements. Goldstein received $30,000 in civil penalties and $10,000 in cost reimbursements. The Board also ordered each physician to complete a medical ethics course
