Ceramic hips that squeak tend be found in patients that are taller, heavier and younger

Study identifies patient characteristics for squeaking hips (OrthoSuperSite)

2,406 primary ceramic-on-ceramic hip arthroplasties were studied. The investigators identified 74 squeaking hips (3.1%) out of the series and investigated patient factors associated with an increased incidence of squeaking.

Patients with squeaking hips tended to be taller (5 feet 7 inches vs. 5 feet 6 inches), heavier (176.8 pounds vs. 168.4 pounds) and younger (60 years vs. 65 years old) compared with patients who had silent hips, according to an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) press release.
