Medtronic Xomed seeks $2.5 million from Jacksonville to create 175 jobs (Jacksonville.com)
Medtronic Xomed Inc. is seeking $2.5 million in financial incentives from Jacksonville and the state for an expansion of the company’s Southside operation that would create 175 jobs.
Medtronic currently employs 600 people in Jacksonville and would spend $14.1 million to build and equip additional space at its Jacksonville location for the expansion, according to a project summary by the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission.
The JEDC will consider the incentives package at its meeting Thursday.
Medtronic Xomed would add 175 jobs with an average wage of $80,000 by the end of 2015, according to the JEDC staff report.
The city would put forward $660,000 and the state would provide $1.87 million for the incentive package.
Medtronic is choosing between Jacksonville and Fort Worth, Texas, where the company also has a surgical technologies facility.
The Medtronic Xomed office in Jacksonville is the headquarters for the surgical technologies division of Xomed Inc., a global business.
