A Florida startup that aims to treat vertebral compression fractures caused by osteoporosis in a novel way is seeking $2 million, according to a regulatory filing. It has already raised $45,000.
Ascendx Spine, based in Winter Park, has developed the Ascendx VCF Repair System that accesses the vertebral body using one pedicle, which is the part of the vertebra extending out from the vertebral body. Most traditional procedures such as balloon kyphoplasty require access through two pedicles.
